On the decision to suspend Hwang, the Korea Football Association said: "We have decided not to select Hwang Ui-jo for the national team until a clear conclusion is reached on the facts," the committee said in a statement afterwards." South Korea's manager, Jurgen Klinsmann added: "I fully understand the current situation and will respect the decision of the Korea Football Association."

South Korea are set to participate in the Asia Cup and begin their campaign on January 15 against Bahrain. Pending the outcome of the police inquiry, Hwang will remain suspended by Korea and Norwich have said they will monitor developments.
