Aston Villa correspondent Ashley Preece has been reacting to rumours regarding Villarreal forward Nicolas Jackson.

The Lowdown: Jackson linked with Villa

Unai Emery officially begins work as Villa’s head coach today ahead of his first game in charge against Manchester United next weekend.

The Spaniard is set to be backed by NSWE with a ‘huge’ January budget, and it appears as if he is already making plans for the transfer window.

Reports have suggested that Emery has ‘instructed his new club to move quickly and try to sign’ Senegalese forward Jackson, with his deal in Spain set to expire at the end of the season.

The Latest: Preece reacts to Jackson rumours

Preece took to Twitter to give his thoughts on the rumours regarding Villa and Jackson, sharing a corresponding article from Birmingham Live.

The Villa reporter described the 21-year-old as ‘a player with bags of potential’ and said that ‘Villa have also opened an academy in Jackson’s native Senegal as well’, making a move ‘one to watch’.

The Verdict: Makes sense

Should Jackson’s contract situation remain the same, Villa will be able to discuss a possible pre-contract agreement in the New Year.

Emery is clearly a fan of the right-winger, who can play anywhere across the front three if needed, with Jackson progressing through the academy and into Emery’s Villarreal side.

The exciting youngster has already tallied a respectable haul of five goal contributions across all competitions for Villarreal so far this season.

Therefore, a winter swoop could make sense for everyone involved, and as Preece mentions, it could be one to keep an eye on for the Villa faithful heading into 2023.
